DAY 26 - 21.4 MILES

We made it to Louisiana this afternoon!!
This morning, however, was really fun. First Pat, Mary Kay and Jacque started walking across the bridge  to Bay  St. Louis, and Maxine drove across to the west side where she met Gail, a friend of Marty R. In Colorado. Gail lives in Bay St Louis, and she and Maxine walked back to the top of the bridge, met the others, and we all walked the rest of the way together. When we arrived, we were met by Dot, Tim's mother, and Jeff, the editor of the Sea Coast Echo, the local newspaper. Tim was our host in Destin.  Dot was there with a great welcome sign for us, and after a chat with Jeff, who said an article would be in the Sat paper, we went to cute downtown Bay St. Louis, "The most fun small town in the South", and talked with them at a coffee shop.  It was such a nice visit, and we learned all about how the area was devastated by Katrina and how it has been rebuilt. Dot was out of her house for 18 months, and Gail's parents' house was destroyed, too. We were sorry to have to leave them, but we had more walking to do if we wanted to get to Louisiana. After a stop at the coffee house/ bookstore we went to yesterday, we came back to Jim's condo for a final night.

  3. You ladies are wonderful. Watch the fire ants. If you step on one of those ant hills the ant bites will set you back. We bicycled the route you are following in 2013. Be safe and keep putting one foot in front of the other!!!
